Could you be
a foster carer?

Start your journey today and earn £2,956 per month to foster
a young person in Barnsley.
Did you know that over 65% of children in care are aged 10-17? We believe that every young person in Barnsley deserves a loving home full of care and support. Right now, we urgently need foster carers who can offer teenagers stability, guidance, and encouragement to help them build a brighter future.
We have an amazing community of fostering families already making a difference, and we’d love for you to be part of it! If you have a stable home and a big heart, we’ll provide everything else, including financial payments, training, and 24/7 support, so you’ll never be on this journey alone.

“Our first 18 months as foster carers have been incredible…The girls, aged eight and 13, came to us in September and shared that they had never had a nice Christmas and felt very apprehensive about the whole festive period. Seeing their faces on Christmas morning as they came downstairs and opened presents they had put on their lists to Santa was incredibly emotional for us all, and they were so grateful.”

Financial support
for foster carers
As a foster carer, you will be paid for your time, skills and commitment, but you’ll also receive an allowance to cover the living costs of the young person in your care. This makes sure that you are supported financially and the child’s needs are fully covered:
-
Foster carer payment: This is a payment to recognise your role as a foster carer. It starts at £130 per week but can go up to £375 per week with experience and training.
-
Allowance for the child: This covers the child’s living costs, including food, clothing, and activities.
We also provide additional financial support for young people’s birthdays, special occasions and new clothing. You can find more details on all our financial support in our finance guide:

“It is the most rewarding thing I have ever done, and I can’t imagine not being a foster carer now. Even during the tough times, seeing how much your help and support is doing for these children is worth every second. The support you will receive is second to none, and the fostering community is incredibly supportive too.”

Why foster a teenager?
Fostering older children and young people brings so many unique rewards that you might not have thought about.
Change their life
Older children and teenagers are often overlooked in the foster care system. Choosing to foster older children means you're making a huge difference in their lives when they need it most.
Watch them
change
You get to watch them grow into young adults and help them with important decisions about school and jobs.
Build lasting
relationships
The relationships you create with older children and teenagers can be strong and long-lasting. Many continue well into their adulthood.
Learn from them
Older children bring their own experiences and perspectives. Our foster carers often say they learn so much from the young people in their care, making their relationship even more special.
